Bankruptcy Filings Slide in Calendar Year 2011
Bankruptcy filings in the federal courts fell 11.5 percent in calendar year 2011, according to data released today by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts. The number of bankruptcies filed in the twelve-month period ending December 31, 2011, totaled 1,410,653, down from 1,593,081 bankruptcies filed in CY 2010.

Closing of the Clerk's Office
The United States Bankruptcy Court Clerk's Office for the Northern District of Texas will be closed on Monday, February 20, 2012, in observance of Presidents' Day.
The closing of the Clerk's office will not affect the court's Electronic Filing System, which will remain available during this time. For emergency filings, please refer to our Emergency Filing Procedure.

Notice of Vacancy - United States Bankruptcy Judge
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit seeks applications from all highly qualified candidates for a 14-year appointment as a United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Northern District of Mississippi at Aberdeen. The position will require regular overnight travel to other divisions within the Northern District of Mississippi.
The selection process will be confidential and competitive. The current annual salary is $160,080. Only those persons with a law degree whose character, experience, ability, and impartiality qualify them to serve in the Judicial Branch should apply. Persons shall be considered without regard to race, color, sex, religion, disability, or national origin.

The Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit invites applications from highly qualified candidates for the position of Bankruptcy Judge for the Northern District of California. This position will be available on December 1, 2012. The selection process may take up to 10 months to complete. The official duty station for this position will be in San Francisco, CA.

Bankruptcy Judgeship Vacancies - District of Arizona
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit invites applications from highly qualified candidates for three (3) Bankruptcy Judgeships for the District of Arizona. These positions will be available in early 2013; however, the selection process may take up to 10 months to complete. The official duty stations for these positions are in Phoenix (2 judgeships) and Tucson (1 judgeship). The appointees, however, may be required to hold regular calendars anywhere in the District, as needed.

Bankruptcy Filings Down in Fiscal Year 2011
Bankruptcy cases filed in federal courts for fiscal year 2011, the 12-month period ending September 30, 2011, totaled 1,467,221, down 8 percent over the FY 2010 bankruptcy filings of 1,596,355, according to statistics released today by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts. Filings dropped during the fourth quarter of the Judiciary's fiscal year, with 15 percent fewer filings than in the same three-month period in 2010.

Bankruptcy Filings Down From 2010 Levels
Bankruptcy petitions filed in the 12-month period ending June 30, 2011 totaled 1,529,560, down 2.7 percent from the 1,572,597 bankruptcy petitions filed in the 12-month period ending June 30, 2010. Despite the slight drop in overall filings nationwide, the number of bankruptcy filings increased in 19 of the 94 districts. Please click here to read the full article.

Growth in Bankruptcy Filings Slows In Calendar Year 2010
Bankruptcy filings in the federal courts rose 8 percent in calendar year 2010, according to data released today by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts. Total filings remain at a five-year high.
The number of bankruptcies filed in the twelve-month period ending December 31, 2010, totaled 1,593,081, up from 1,473,675 bankruptcies filed in CY 2009.
