Filing Special Documents
Records can be sealed only by order of the court.
External filers will docket sealed documents electronically after the motion to file under seal has been granted. A sealed document requires an order unsealing the document to be viewed by anyone other than the judge and law clerk, unless the order sealing the document specifies otherwise.
If, and only if, the Court specifically requires submission of a document that is the subject of a motion to be filed under seal, proceed as follows:
Place the document to be sealed in a large manila envelope between 8-1/2" x 11" and 10" x 15".
Submit the envelope containing the sealed document to the Clerk's Office. The envelope should be addressed specifically to the judge.
A voluminous sealed
document may be submitted in multiple numbered envelopes or a box.
NOTE: In
addition to a paper copy, the envelope or box must include a copy
of the sealed document(s) in .PDF format on a CD, diskette or flash
drive. Additionally, if an order granting the motion to seal has not
been entered and the Court has not specifically requested that the
document be filed under seal prior to the order being entered, the
documents cannot be treated as sealed. As such, you may choose:
a. To file the document unsealed as-is;
b. To file the document unsealed with redactions; or
c. To wait until the order is entered granting the motion to seal before filing your documents.
Upon entry of a court ORDER authorizing a document to be filed under seal proceed as follows:
Docket event Sealed document per court order for all NON-MOTION documents.
Docket event Sealed motion per court order for all MOTION documents.
